Modleski's Top-5 Finish Leads Irish At Lamkin Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The Irish men’s golf team recorded their lowest score of the spring season to date with a three-round score of 862(-2). The men were paced by Jacob Modleski’s fourth-place finish as the sophomore scored 206(-10) over the two-day tournament.

Modleski posted his lowest score of the season as he recorded three consecutive rounds under par for the 206(-10) final score. He opened the tournament up with a score of 68(-4) before improving to a -9 overall through two rounds with a single-round low of 67(-5) for the sophomore. Day two of the tournament saw him post a 71(-1) score en route to the fourth-place overall finish and the team low for Notre Dame.

Mike Qiu finished second for the Irish with a final score of 218(+2) and 45th-place overall. The freshman posted his tournament-low in round two of the Lamkin Invitational, finishing Sunday off with a score of 69(-3). Qiu opened the tournament with a 74(+2) in round one before finalizing his time in San Diego with a score of 75(+3) in round three.

Nate Stevens and Rocco Salvitti each tied for 50th overall at the tournament with a three-round score of 219(+3) a piece. Stevens opened the tournament with a score of 70(-2) in the first round before posting scores of 74(+2) and 75(+3) in the latter two for the 219(+3) finish. Salvitti posted a 75(+3) score to start before registering a score of 73(+1) to close out the first day of competition. On Tuesday, Salvitti recorded a third round score of 71(-1) in the final.

The Irish field was rounded out by Lance Hollingshead who made his official Irish debut and scored 232(+16) over the course of the two days. His 76(+4) score in round two of the tournament was a season low for the freshman.

Notre Dame is set to compete next at the Schenkel Invitational, March 21-23 in Statesboro, Georgia.
