MADISON, Wis. – Monday marked moving day for the Notre Dame men’s golf team in second round action at the Badger Invitational at The Ridge Golf Course (Par 72, Yardage 7,259). The Irish tied for the second lowest total on the day with its eight-under par, moving to four-under par overall, good for fourth place.
“Thought we played great from the start today,” Notre Dame head coach John Handrigan stated. “The back nine was our best nine yesterday and we picked up right where we left off then continued the consistent play on the front nine.”
Davis Chatfield highlighted the day with a five-under par, tying the fifth lowest round in program history. As a result, the freshman leaped from 52nd place to 13th. Chatfield began his second round by notching three birdies in the first five holes, then ended his day in similar fashion, with two birdies on the final four holes.
“Chatfield played an exceptional round of golf today,” Handrigan added. “He nailed his putts and got his confidence going. He’s going to have a bright future with the Irish.”
Sitting right in front of Chatfield on the leaderboard is teammate Ben Albin, who has been quite consistent thus far. After shooting a 71 on day one, Albin tallied a 70 on Monday to sit in eighth place at three-under par.
Miguel Delgado also shot under par today with a 71, as the junior is now in 25th place at one-over par overall. Next, Davis Lamb shot even-par, improving by six strokes from the opening round, while John Felitto rounds out the group with his round of 77.
To reach the top-three on the leaderboard, Notre Dame will have to overcome Kansas (-8) in third, who also reeled off an eight-under par today. Marquette (-10) sits in second after notching the best score of the day at 11-under par. Meanwhile, No. 16 Texas A&M occupies the top spot at 16-under par.
Finally, Tuesday’s final round will be a shotgun start that commences at 10:30 a.m. ET.
