SOUTH BEND, Ind. – Notre Dame men’s tennis earned its first ranked win of the season, with an emphatic 4-1 victory over No. 25 Illinois. Then, the Fighting Irish improved to 8-1 on the season with a 5-0 shutout over Creighton.
Peter Nad was the spotlight of the weekend, going 2-0 in doubles and 2-0 in singles, which included a ranked win. Against Illinois, Nad defeated No. 125 Adam Jilly, 6-2, 7-5. He followed that up with a 6-3, 6-2, win over Mathis Dahler of Creighton. In doubles, the 16th-ranked pair of Nad and Luis Llorens Saracho continues to gel, with a 6-4 win over Illinois’s Bowers/Debru, then a 6-1 victory over Creighton’s Mommessin/Patel.
Nad is now 6-1 in dual singles matches and 5-2 in doubles alongside Llorens Saracho.
The biggest singles victory of Saturday belonged to graduate Perry Gregg. The California native scored an upset over No. 12 Kenta Miyoshi of Illinois, 6-4, 7-5. Gregg improved to 5-1 in singles dual matches.
