GREENSBORO, N.C. – The Atlantic Coast Conference office released its All-Conference men’s tennis teams Thursday afternoon. Senior Axel Nefve earned First Team All-ACC honors for his efforts this season. Nefve is the lone member of the Fighting Irish squad to earn All-Conference honors this year. This is Nefve’s first All-ACC award.
The top player on the Irish roster earned a 12-7 overall record, and was 4-3 in ACC action this season. Nefve was a qualifier for the NCAA Singles Championship in Champagne, Illinois where he earned a first-round win over Eduardo Graziani of Penn before falling to the top overall seed and eventual National Champion Ben Shelton of Florida.
During the regular season, Nefve was named the ACC Singles Co-Player of the Week March 8th after earning wins over 12th-ranked Andres Martin of Georgia Tech and Clemson’s Ryuhei Azuma at the top singles flight. That week he also paired with Matthew Che as the doubles tandem earned wins over Martin and Dong Chen from GT and the 22nd ranked team of Azuma and Teodor Guisca of Clemson.
Nefve and Che paired to earn Doubles Team of the Week honors early in the year. The pair earned win over the Middle Tennessee State’s 44th-ranked tandem of Stijn Slump and Pavel Motl, helping end the nation’s longest home winning streak in Murfreesboro.
