New York Islanders General Manager Garth Snow To Be Guest Speaker At Fifth Annual Drop The Puck Event

Notre Dame, Ind. – New York Islanders’ General Manager Garth Snow will be the guest speaker at Notre Dame hockey’s annual “Drop The Puck” season-opening function. This year’s “Drop The Puck” will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 6 at the Joyce Center Field House beginning at 7:00 p.m. Fans will have a chance to meet the 2009-10 Notre Dame hockey team’s players and staff with the event free and open to the public as long as space is available. This season-opening event will give Irish hockey fans a chance to look back on the 2008-09 season that saw the Irish go 31-6-3 and win their second CCHA regular-season and postseason titles and get geared up for the start of the 2009-10 season on Friday, October 9 versus Alabama-Huntsville at the Joyce Center. The 2009-10 team will be available beginning at 7:00 p.m. with the speaking portion of the program to begin at approximately 7:30 p.m. Food, refreshments and a variety of interactive activities will be available throughout the evening.

This year’s guest speaker, Garth Snow, is in his third year as the general manager of the New York Islanders. A goaltender with the Islanders from 2001 to 2006, Snow retired as a player on July 18, 2006 to become the fifth general manager in franchise history. During his NHL career, Snow played 12 seasons, finishing with a 135-147-43 record along with a 2.80 GAA and .901 save percentage over 368 games with Quebec, Philadelphia, Vancouver, Pittsburgh and the Islanders.

A native of Wrentham, Mass., he was originally selected in the sixth round by Quebec in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft and signed with the Islanders as a free agent on July 1, 2001.

A 1993 graduate of the University of Maine, Snow represented Team USA at the 1994 Olympics in Norway and at the 1998 World Championships in Switzerland.

A three-year hockey standout at Maine, Snow led the Black Bears to an NCAA Championship, defeating Jeff Jackson’s Lake Superior State Lakers in 1993 and was selected to the NCAA All-Tournament Team and earned Hockey East Second Team All-Star honors. At Maine, Snow earned a Master’s Degree in Educational Administration and a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration.
