NOTRE DAME, Ind. – In another great day for Notre Dame distance runners, juniors JoAnna Deeter (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) and Alison Klemmer (Troy, Mich.) placed third and seventh respectively in the 10,000-meter race Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Boise, Idaho. JoAnna Deeter placed third in the 10,000 meters to earn All-America honors.

Deeter came in just five seconds behind the race’s winner, Leigh Daniel of Texas Tech, who posted a time of 34:01.63. Deeter’s third place is the best-ever at the NCAAs by any Notre Dame women’s track and field member and completes a year in which she also earned All-America status in both indoor track (5,000 meters) and cross country.

Klemmer became Notre Dame’s first two-time women’s outdoor track All-American with her seventh-place finish. Just a year ago, she placed eighth also at 10,000 meters with a then career-best and school-record time of 34:32.95 en route to becoming the University’s first outdoor women’s distance All-American.

Also competing for the Irish was junior high jumper Jennifer Engelhardt (Battle Creek, Mich.), who placed 19th by clearing 5-8 at her first NCAA outdoor championships.
