DRAWING IT UP

Play Text:
With quarterback Ryan Kealy (8) failing to meet expectations, the Sun Devils have relied on All-Pac 10 running back JR Redmond (21) to carry the load. Arizona St. features a tough offensive line that has dominated the line of scrimmage in all four outings and has ASU second in rushing in the PAC-10.

The Irish rank 34th in the nation against the run and need a big performance to slow Redmond. He can go between the tackles or outside, so containment will be key. The Irish defensive ends, who are excellent pass rushers, need to be aware of the draw play and quick-hitting inside plays.

Here the Devils turn to their bread and butter play, the draw. The offensive line steps back and pushes forward. Defensive tackle Brad Williams (77) reads the play, yells draw and makes contact with Redmond at the line of scrimmage. Redmond is slowed enough for outside linebacker Rocky Boiman (30) to finish off the tackle.
