The University of Notre Dame women’s track and field team finished seventh in the 2001 BIG EAST Indoor Track and Field Championships in Syracuse, N.Y. Georgetown won the conference title with 111 points, while Pittsburgh was the runner-up with 94 points. Notre Dame garnered 57.5 points. The Irish will return to action at home on March 2-3 in the Alex Wilson Invitational at the Loftus Sports Complex.
The best event for Notre Dame on Sunday was the 400 meters, in which three Irish runners placed in the top eight. Junior Liz Grow (New Braunfels, Texas), the defending champion in the event, finished second with a time of 54.57, while sophomore Kymia Love (Memphis, Tenn.) was sixth and freshman Kristen Dodd (Toledo, Ohio) finished eighth.
Sophomore All-American Tameisha King (Mableton, Ga.) had a successful weekend, registering a pair of top-four finishes. King finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 8.49 after gaining third-place points in the long jump on Saturday.
Other top performers for Notre Dame were freshman Megan Johnson (Seattle, Wash.) and the 4 x 400 relay team. Johnson finished fifth in the one-mile run in 4:57.26 and the team of Love, Dodd, Grow and Ayesha Boyd (Spartanburg, S.C.) also registered a fifth-place result.
