Why I believe my husband Kevin should win the contest is easy.
Kevin is a Pastor in a smaller Church in Decatur, MI. He is well respected by the community as well as his congregation. Kevin has always put others first above and beyond his own needs or wants. He doesn’t miss an opportunity to render his services to the community. He is very active in the Youth programs in Decatur as well a former Basketball Coach. Kevin has always done things to help out kids and or any family in need. He has always been quick to find a meal for a hungry family, money to those travelers that stop by the church and need gas or lodging, or food, Kevin will take out of his own pocket and cupboards to help these families. He has spent the past 9 years of his ministry serving others at no gain to himself, he has given up vacations and going to sporting events he has longed to see. Just to set beside a friend or friend of a friend who is ill, or in the hospital. There are too many times to count that he has said, “I am going to that game this weekend” only to put it aside because someone needs him. And to top it off, he doesn’t complain or is not concerned about it.
Kevin as a husband and father, there is none as lucky as I. He has always put his 4 kids first, doing for them, making sure they everything they need. Making sure he is at their sports games. Giving them a passion for sports, teaching them respect for the games and the teams play. Kevin has also instilled a passion for all of the Notre Dame sports into our Children, they often go to the campus to walk around or to stand and watch the players in the field. He tries to take them down a couple times a month to see the fields. There are not enough kind words I can express to you about why I believe Kevin deserves this chance. But let me close in telling you that this is a man who no matter what will do what ever he can to help a family in need. Kevin has never asked for help himself. But I believe he needs this for so many reasons. He has been by the bedside of a very dear friend of his that lost her battle to cancer, and he was there every step of the way. When he was too tired, when he was emotionally exhausted, he was there holding her hand and comforting the family. After she passed away, he was drained physically and emotionally. Only to have to turn around and face that his Grandmother now had a similar type of cancer, she was more to him than a Grandmother she was his second mother. He lost his Mom when he was a teen and his Grandmother stepped in and has been his biggest supporter physically, emotionally and spiritually. He sat by her bedside as well, coming home to get some food and sleep and driving back up to set with her and his family for days. She passes away and he even found the strength to speak at her funeral and comfort all his friends and family that were grieving.
We won’t be able to take a vacation this year, nothing grand enough anyway to give him the fun and excitement he deserves to have after the past several months. He is in need of recharging and doing something he loves for a change. Something the boys can set back and say theirs my dad doing what he loves, playing the game he loves on the field of the only team he has loved through all seasons. Please give him this opportunity; please give his family the opportunity to see him smile for himself for the first time in a long time.
I am sure you will have a lot of heartfelt requests, but I did not do justice in explaining this mans worth to his community and his selflessness to everyone else. He will never ever be able to afford a camp like this, yet he has clipped out the information these past 2 years. And he always says one day boys, I will do this and you can watch me. It would mean the world to not only Kevin but his 2 boys that are 10 and 8. he has 2 girls 3 and 4 ? who also talk about and already know that Notre Dame football, baseball, and basketball will be a big part of their lives growing up. Thank you for taking time to read this request. And good luck with the judging as I am sure it is bound to be a tough job.
God bless you,
Sincerely,
Amy
