BLUE ISLAND, Ill. – The Notre Dame rowing team completed its fall season on Sunday at the Southland Regatta in Blue Island, Ill. Two of the Irish’s varsity eight crews placed in the top 15 of the varsity eight race at the Fay’s Point Course.

Notre Dame entered four crews in the 23-boat varsity eight race. The Notre Dame B boat of coxswain Stephanie Szegedi, Mallory Glass, Katherine Linnemanstons, Megan Keegan, Carol Michel, Genevieve Malone, Hannah Jackson, Casey Robinson and Christina Buckley finished ninth in the preliminary race with a time of 17:11.023 to advance to the finals of the varsity eight C race. Notre Dame went on to take fourth in the 2,000-meter race with a time of 7:12.30.

The Irish A boat of Kelsey Otero, Christine Trezza, Lauren Buck, Emily Crosby, Morgan Kelley, Elli Greybar, Anni Nowhitney, Brittney Kelly and Erica Copeland were 14th in the preliminary face with a time of 17:21.431 and then won the finals of the varsity D race in 7:08.500.

Notre Dame’s C crew of coxswain Katherine McMackin, Kate Suyo, Danielle Leary, Erin McConnell, Stephanie Gretsch, Erika Shults, Sissy Peters, Braegan Padley and Emily Backer took 19th with a time of 17:46.682 and then came back to finish fourth in the final of the varsity eight E race with a time of 7:32.500.

The final boat to race in the competition was the varsity eight D boat of coxswain Alicia Elliott, Erin Connors, Colleen McKenna, Andrea Archer, Bridget Leone, Shannon Kiernan, Kaitlyn Meaney, Maria Lang and Valerie Brencher. That crew placed 223rd in 18:27.456.

The two Notre Dame boats entered in the novice eight race placed 15th and 16th overall. The Notre Dame B crew of coxswain Christina Carson, Iriassa Ann Reilly, Noelle Fosko, Meredith Figg, Claire Kueny, Christina Chavarin, Ashley Satterlee, Courtney Hofman and Amy Holsinger finished in 20:43.472, while the Notre Dame A crew of Jacqueline Gilhooly, CT Hwang, Carly Anderson, Margot DeBot, Jillian Hirsch, Francis Mei Hardin, Mega Osterhout, Allison Skow and Kacey Gergely registered a time of 20:47.163.

“I think we accomplished some things during both of these regattas during the fall season,” Irish head coach Martin Stone. “We have a snapshot of where we are right now and what we need to improve on before the spring. Today’s race was provided some good competition for us and was a great venue to watch a race.”
