On shooting in the first half
I told them at halftime that I didn’t know if we could play any harder than we were playing. I think we played really hard but I didn’t think we could play any worse offensively than we had.
We just didn’t make any shots. (Darryl “Truck” Bryant) got us going, which helps. He got some step in shots and he got it going. I had planned at halftime to put Jonnie (West) in when they went with their freshmen, someone who wouldn’t overpower him with size at the other end, and then he hit a big shot for us.
On getting the lead early in the second half
I like those double-figure kind of leads. It is a little easier to stand there.
We didn’t make as many free throws down the stretch as I had planned on. We shot a lot of free throws.
On emotions of the game
I thought we played with a lot of enthusiasm throughout the whole game. That is probably as hard as we have played, since the Purdue game, for 40 minutes. I think everyone we put in played hard.

Opening Statement
I thought West Virginia was really ready to play. We really didn’t do well offensively and I think that was a lot of West Virginia’s doing and the atmosphere here. We tried to make a couple rounds, but they hit some big shots. Guys hit big 3’s at key times to make us never feel we could close the gap. They were really good today.
(Joe) Mazulla was good early, getting them confident. We had a hard time keeping him out of the lane, and that continued for really 40 minutes, even though we put some different guys on him and tried to play some zone.
On being up before the second half
We were pretty good with the initial post defense. Second shots hurt us at a key times, specifically in the first five minutes of the second half. We didn’t defend as well, we didn’t concentrate as well, we didn’t chase down loose balls as well and it made them believe and their crowd believe. It’s a tough one to get a win in. It is a great atmosphere.
