SALEM, S.C. — The Notre Dame men’s golf team finished in eighth place at the Clemson Invitational, held at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls. The Irish recorded a third round score of 302 and a final tournament score of 899 (+35).

Junior Matthew Rushton was the top Notre Dame finisher, tying for ninth at two-over par for the tournament. Rushton was consistent over the three days of tournament play, shooting 72-72-74 for a total of 218. He was ten shots out of first place.

Freshman Ben Albin shot an even-par 72, the best third-round score for the Irish. Albin finished tied for 17th at five-over par for the three day tournament, moving up eight spots from Saturday’s standings.

Junior Blake Barens finished Sunday’s round with a six-over par 78, as did freshman Miguel Delgado. Sophomore Thomas Steve also shot a six over par 78 in Sunday’s final round. Steve finished tied for 64th.

Clemson won the tournament at three under par with a team score of 861 over the three day tournament. Georgia Tech finished 11 shots behind, at an eight over par 872.

Vince Whaley of Georgia Tech finished atop the leaderboard at eight under par on the tournament, and was followed by Robin Sciot-Siegrist of Louisville (-6) and Sam Weatherhead of Michigan State (-1).

The Irish will return home and host the Battle at the Warren on April 16, and will look to gain momentum going into the ACC Tournament, beginning on April 24.
