SALEM, S.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team will be eying its second team title of the season after posting back-to-back successful rounds at the Clemson Invitational on Friday. The Fighting Irish tallied a 285 (-3) in both the first and second round at The Cliffs at Keowee Falls Golf Course, thus sitting one stroke off the leader of Boston College (-7) at six-under par.
The Irish and the Eagles are the only two teams under-par heading into the final round, as No. 15 Clemson occupies the next spot in third at one-over par.
Individually, Notre Dame boasts two players in the top-5 and four within the top-15. Davis Lamb sits in third place at two-under par, just five strokes behind the leader, Matt Naumec of Boston College. Ben Albin follows right behind at one-under par in a tie for fourth place.
FIRST ROUND
Starting on the back-nine, the Irish exploded out of the gates, jumping out to a 10-stroke lead over the field, sitting at nine-under par after completion of 6-9 holes. Davis Chatfield, Miguel Delgado and Davis Lamb all reached the turn at three-under par, with Chatfield already securing four birdies.
Lamb proved the most consistent on the front-nine, tallying two birdies and two bogeys to finish at three-under for the round, good for second place and one stroke back from the overall leader. The round of 69 was his second lowest all year.
Delgado (-2) and Chatfield (-1) each followed suit with under-par rounds. Albin, who was just one-over heading into the par-5 ninth, suffered a double-bogey to card a three-over for the round, thus rounding out the team score.
SECOND ROUND
Today’s second round set the stage for Albin, who recorded bogey-free golf, while firing off four birdies to card a 68 (-4). The round tied his third lowest this year and as a result, catapulted Albin up 18 spots into a tie for fourth place on the individual leaderboard.
Lamb shot one-under on the back-nine and remained there heading into the par-5 ninth. Yet the hole struck Notre Dame again, as Lamb tallied a double-bogey to finish with a 73 (+1) for the round. Despite the one blemish, Lamb sits in third place, five strokes off the leader.
John Felitto carded a round of 69 (-3) for the third consecutive tournament. The sophomore shot even-par on the back, then tallied four birdies, one bogey, on the front. Delgado rounded out the team scoring in round two with a 75 (+3).
Overall, Delgado sits in 10th place, while Felitto jumped up an impressive 24 spots to 13th.
