Round One Results | Saturday Pairings
NEW LONDON, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team executed a strong game plan on day one of the ACC Championships on Friday at the Old North State Club. The Irish surged past eight teams ranked within Golfstat’s top-50 to land in second place after the opening round.
The Irish shot a 277 (-11) and sit just one stroke back from the No. 1 seed Georgia Tech. Notre Dame’s 11-under par tied its lowest round-to-par all season, previously going 11-under in the first round at the Quail Valley Intercollegiate back in October. It also marked the program’s second lowest round score all-time at a conference championship.
Davis Chatfield played a bogey-free round, carding a 67 (-5) to land in a tie for fourth place. The freshman’s five-under par tied his lowest round on the year and was one stroke back from the lowest round score in program history at a league championship event.
Furthermore, all four scores that counted for Notre Dame were under-par, which included Davis Lamb‘s 69 (-3), John Felitto‘s 70 (-2) and Miguel Delgado‘s 71 (-1).
FIRST ROUND
Chatfield’s clean sheet started with three birdies on the back-nine before recording two more on the front. As a result, Chatfield sits just three strokes behind the current co-leaders.
Lamb recorded his third round under 70 this year and for the second straight tournament with a 69 (-3) on Friday. His total puts him in a tie for 12th place. Lamb tallied six birdies on the day.
Felitto follows right behind in a tie for 18th with his 70 (-2) round total. The sophomore scored one-under on both the front and back-nine. Since being inserted into the lineup on March 16, six of Felitto’s 10 total rounds have been under-par.
Meanwhile, Delgado is tied for 23rd with his 71 (-1), finishing one-under with a clean sheet on the front-nine.
UP NEXT
The Irish are paired with Clemson and Georgia Tech for round two, which is slated to begin at 10 a.m. ET. All five pairings will tee-off at hole No. 1. The ACC Network Extra will be providing coverage of Saturday’s second round from 2-4 p.m.
