Notre Dame Game NotesNOTRE DAME, Ind. — No. 16 Notre Dame faces No. 1 Duke in the semifinals of the ACC Championship in Charlottesville, Virginia, at 6 p.m. on Friday, April 27. The game will be played at Klöckner Stadium on Virginia’s campus.
The showdown will be broadcast live on ESPNU with Anish Shroff (play-by-play), Quint Kessenich (analyst) and Paul Carcaterra (analyst) on the call.
With a win the Irish will play the winner of the semifinal between Syracuse and Virginia at noon ET on Sunday, April 29 at Klöckner Stadium for the ACC Championship crown. The title game will also air live on ESPNU.

Irish At The ACC Championship

Notre Dame will be playing in its fifth ACC Championship come Friday evening. The Irish have an all-time record of 3-3 at the ACC Championships.

The Irish claimed an ACC Championship title in the team’s first season in the league in 2014. Notre Dame won a pair of one goal games over Maryland (6-5) in the semifinal and Syracuse (15-14) in the final.

Notre Dame defeated Duke in the semifinals last season by a final score of 7-6 before falling to UNC in the title game.

The Irish have faced the Blue Devils in the semifinals of each of the last three ACC Championships.
The Duke Series

Friday will be the 22nd meeting all-time between Notre Dame and Duke. The Irish trail in the series with the Blue Devils, as Notre Dame has an 8-13 record in the matchup.

Notre Dame dropped the regular-season tilt against Duke this season, falling by a score of 8-2 at Arlotta Stadium on April 7.

The the two sides split the season series in 2017. The Blue Devils won the regular season matchup at Koskinen Stadium, handing Notre Dame an 11-8 defeat. However, Notre Dame traveled back to Durham for the semifinals of the ACC tournament and discarded the Blue Devils by a score of 7-6 to advance to the championship game.
No. 8 In The RPI

Notre Dame enters the week ranked No. 8 in the latest installment of the RPI.

The Irish have played three of the teams in front of them in the standings, which are Maryland (No. 1), Duke (No. 3) and Denver (No. 7).

Sexton Showing Out

Senior LSM John Sexton earned his second ACC Defensive Player of the Week after the win over Marquette. Sexton has three ACC weekly honors in his career.

Sexton has been regarded as one of the top LSMs in the country over the last couple of seasons and he is proving his merit in 2018.

Sexton has 39 ground balls, 13 caused turnovers, three goals and an assist over the 10 games he has played in this season.

The senior has caused at least one turnover in eight straight games.

Earlier this season, Sexton was the only men’s lacrosse player to earn the ACC’s Weaver-James-Corrigan Award, a postgraduate scholarship.
Stifling Defense

The Irish have allowed an average of 8.82 goals per game to rank 15th in the country, despite facing some of the most potent attacks at the DI level.

Notre Dame has held seven of its 11 opponents to fewer than 10 goals.

The Irish defense held both then-No. 7 Virginia and then-No. 5 Duke to their season lows for goals scored in a game.

Duke (No. 3), Virginia (No. 7) and Denver (No. 11) all rank in the top 20 in goals scored per game this season and the Irish held each to under 10 goals.
The Irish X-Man

Senior John Travisano, Jr., has had a great year at the X through 11games in the 2018 campaign. The senior has won 112-of-192 face-offs this season to rank 15th in the country in face-off percentage with a mark of .583.

Travisano has won the face-off battle in eight of 11 games this season, including six of the last seven outings.

The face-off man had the best game of his career at the X against Ohio State (3/25), winning 17-of-19 face-offs in a dominating performance.

The 17 face-off wins are a career high for Travisano and the most since Liam O’Connor won 21 against Albany on May 17, 2014.

In his most recent outing, Travisano won 16-of-21 face-offs at UNC.
The 300 Club

Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan is one of just four active Division I coaches to reach the 300-win mark.

Corrigan has an overall record of 301-153 in his 32 seasons of coaching.

The head coach is 291-138 in his 30 seasons at Notre Dame.

Corrigan is the longest tenured men’s lacrosse coach at the DI level.
