BLOOMINGTON, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame’s track and field program concluded the annual IU Relays Saturday afternoon, claiming 21 top-10 places through two days of competition and a new school record.
Logan Kusky highlighted the first day of competition for the Irish as he boasted a distance of 20.60m in the men’s weight throw, earning a spot on the Notre Dame record boards as he beat the team’s previous record of 20.50m set by Anthony Shivers in 2017. Also in the field, Jernaya Sharp led the Blue & Gold long jump, soaring to a meet-best 5.47m and 10th place.
The second day of competition began with Summer Thorpe claiming the top time in the 60m hurdles finals, crossing the line in 8.56 seconds after qualifying in yesterday’s preliminary race. Grace Cronin finished a hair behind Thorpe for second overall, posting a time of 8.65 seconds. Madysen Hunter also qualified for the hurdles finals where she finished in nine seconds flat for sixth overall.
The Irish also finished among the top-three in the triple jump when Osy Ekwueme leapt to 13.53 meters for third overall and Mikayla Schneider earned a second-place finish in the 800m run with a time of 2:06.56.
I the field, COlton Crum vaulted to a 5.05 meter mark to earn sixth overall while Abbey Kapitan earned a fourth place distance in the women’s shot put, throwing the shot 14.99 meters. Kapitan and RAchel Tanczos also placed in the weight throw, with Tanczos earning sixth (19.21m) and Kapitan taking eighth (18.60m).
John Stefan, Shae Watkins and Grayson Zinn all placed in the top-10 of the men’s shot put claiming sixth, seventh and tenth, respectively. In the men’s weight throw Friday, Shae Watkins (eighth) and John Stefan (ninth) also placed with Kusky taking the top spot with his record-breaking performance.

The Irish return home to Loftus Sports Center for the Meyo Invitational next weekend, February 1-2. The meet will begin Friday evening at 4 p.m., before continuing on Saturday at 9:45 a.m.
