Cale Morris Up For Hobey Vote

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Senior goaltender and alternate captain Cale Morris has been selected to Phase One of the Hobey Baker Memorial Award’s fan vote ballot.

Awarded annually to college hockey’s top player, the Hobey Baker award includes candidates exhibiting the exceptional character traits of the award’s namesake, Hobey Baker, with consideration given to scholastic achievement and sportsmanship. 

The 2018 Mike Richter Award recipient as college hockey’s top goaltender, Morris was a Top-10 Finalist for the Hobey Baker Award in 2018. Morris was the fourth player in Notre Dame history to be among the 10 finalists for the Hobey Baker, joining Anders Bjork (2017), David Brown (2007) and Dave Poulin (1982). Morris, a Larkspur, Colorado native, was also the first player from the Centennial State to play his way into the Hobey Top 10.

The Fan Balloting (Phase I) of the Hobey Baker award calendar will continue until March 9. On March 18, the Top 10 Finalists will be announced, at which time Phase II Fan Balloting will begin and run through March 29, 2020. The Hobey Hat Trick Finalist Announcement will be made on April 2.   

The 2020 Hobey Baker Award winner will be announced from a field of three Hobey Hat Trick finalists on April 10, 2020 during the NCAA Frozen Four Championship in Detroit, Michigan. The award ceremony will be held at Little Caesars Arena and will be broadcast nationally on NHL Network and streamed live at hobeybaker.com.

Cale Morris — As A Senior

• Named an alternate captain prior to the start of the season.
• Has earned three B1G weekly honors (First Star – Dec. 17 & Jan. 7, Third Star – Nov. 12)
• Named the NCAA’s First Star of the Week on January 7.
• Morris has stopped 166 of his last 172 shots against for a .965 save percentage in his last five games dating back to December 14.
• That stretch began with a 37-save shutout in Notre Dame’s 3-0 victory over #7 Penn State on December 14.
• His nine career shutouts rank fifth in program history, while his 53 wins also rank fifth.
