Bloomington, IN– The Notre Dame men’s tennis team heads down to Indiana University for a Saturday afternoon matchup at 3 p.m. ET at the IU Tennis Center. Both ND and IU are 2-2 so far this spring season.

"We are excited for what will be a great match with IU.  They are a very good team on their home courts, and they are very well coached,” said Head Coach Ryan Sachire. “We had a good win over Florida Atlantic in our last match, and we hope to build on that success on Saturday."

HISTORY

The Irish first traveled to Indiana University on April 30, 1935 for a road-battle with the Hoosiers. During this matchup almost 85 years ago, the Irish claimed their first victory over Indiana, 6-3. For the next 10 years, the Irish went undefeated against the Hoosiers until the duo met again during the 1951-1952 season.

Fast forward to the past 10 matchups, Notre Dame has secured 7 of the last 10 meetings. In the past 5 years, the Irish and Hoosiers have met twice, both at home as ND defeated IU 7-0 and 5-2. The Irish are looking to add another victory over IU to the books this weekend.

RANKINGS

Notre Dame has two singles players ranked and one doubles pairing ranked. Axel Nefve comes in at No. 102 in singles play. In the last match against FAU during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend, Nefve defeated Purdue’s No. 58 ranked Maxime Lapraille in two straight sets, 6-3, 6-3. Richard Ciamarra and Tristan McCormick are ranked No. 15 in doubles but have yet to make a doubles appearance together so far this season. Finally, Richard Ciamarra secured the No. 5 spot in the nation and has been a strong contender throughout both fall play and the spring season.

Indiana only has one singles player who is ranked in both singles and doubles according to the ITA Rankings. No. 66 Bennett Crane is 1 for 2 in singles play so far this season after dropping to Vanderbilt’s George Harwell 6-3, 7-6 (7-5) during ITA Kick-Off Weekend.
