GREENSBORO, N.C. — Nineteen Notre Dame swimmers and divers have been selected to the 2020 All-ACC Academic Team for their academic and athletic performance, the conference announced Friday. Three Irish honorees are multi-year winners of the award, while 16 boast their first career selection.
Senior Abbie Dolan headlines the group and is one of just six four-time honorees in ACC Swimming and Diving. Senior Jack Montesi and sophomore Austin Flaute round out the trio of veteran Notre Dame honorees, earning their third and second career notations, respectively.
Notre Dame boasts the fourth-highest total of honorees amongst all ACC squads.
The news follows a successful awards season for the Irish, in which twenty student-athletes were named CSCAA All-Americans, with twelve swimmers set to compete at the 2020 NCAA Championships. The diving Zone C Championships were halted mid-competition, preventing official announcements on diving qualifiers for NCAA Championships. Freshman Jack Hoagland, an All-ACC Academic honoree, was named 2020 ACC Men’s Freshman of the Year, and across both squads, the Irish recorded two individual conference championships and six total podium finishes at the ACC Championships.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one’s academic career. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
