CHICAGO Former Fighting Irish forward Cam Morrison ’20 has signed a two-year entry-level contract with the Chicago Blackhawks the National Hockey League team announced today (August 18).

Morrison’s two-year deal runs through the 2021-22 season ($925,000 AAV).

A proven playoff performer throughout his four seasons with Notre Dame, Morrison finished his senior season ranking second on the team in points (27) while leading the team with a career-high 13 goals. 

Morrison also finished the 2019-20 season with a team-best +10 rating and had three multi-point games, including a goal and two assists in the 4-1 road victory against #19 Western Michigan (Jan. 5). He was named the team’s 2019-20 Brian “Duke” Walsh Offensive Player of the Year.

An Aurora, Ontario native who was a second round draft pick (40th overall) by the Colorado Avalanche in the 2016 NHL Draft, Morrison completed his Irish career with 95 points on 44 goals and 51 assists in 149 games played. He scored the overtime game-winning goal against Ohio State to secure the 2018 Big Ten Tournament Championship and later in that playoff run he had the primary assist on Jake Evans’ last second game winner that sent the Irish to the NCAA national championship game. He earned Big Ten All-Tournament Team honors in 2018 and 2019.

Prior to Notre Dame, he skated with the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL during the 2015-16 season when he earned USHL Rookie of the Year honors.

The Fighting Irish are in the midst of a banner year in the National Hockey League with a program-best 16 former Notre Dame players appearing in the league, including NHL debuts by Thomas DiPauli, Jake Evans, Jordan Gross and Andrew Peeke. Anders Bjork (Boston), Ian Cole (Colorado), Evans, Vinnie Hinostroza (Arizona), Stephen Johns (Dallas), Anders Lee (New York Islanders), Jordan Gross (Arizona), Andrew Peeke (Columbus), and T.J. Tynan (Colorado) are currently with their respective teams at the NHL bubble sites, playing for the Stanley Cup.
