HOW IT HAPPENED

In their first matchup of the day against Northwestern, the Irish were paced by the 6-3 mark posted by the foil squad, leading the team to a 16-11 victory over the Wildcats. Several athletes went 2-1 including epeeists Kaylin Hsieh and Amanda Pirkowski, sabreuses Kara Linder and Kudriavtseva, and foilists Paige Luong, Caulfield and Watson.

Match two saw the Irish again best Northwestern by a decisive score of 22-5. Linder, Greenbaum, Hsieh, Pirkowski, Watson, and Caulfield all went undefeated, recording 3-0 marks. The sabre squad led Notre Dame in the match at 8-1.

The Irish continued their strong showing in dominative fashion in the first afternoon matchup, a 25-2 win over Lawrence. Headed by a 9-0 effort from the sabreists, the epee and foil squads followed close behind, posting definitive 8-1 records of their own.

In the final match of the day the Irish took down Lawrence once again by a score of 24-3. Sabre once again could not be stopped, taking all nine of their points in the last match of the day. Not to be outdone, the foil squad did the same, and the epeeists went 6-3. Greenbaum, Caulfield and Watson all went 3-0 in the final three matches of the day.
