Three Irish Named All-ACC

NOTRE DAME, Ind. –  A top-four finish in the No. 1 RPI ranked Atlantic Coast Conference means postseason accolades were on the way for Notre Dame women’s soccer. On Thursday afternoon, that came to fruition, as three Irish were named All-ACC selections. 

Grad student Sammi Fisher earned First Team honors and became the first First Team selection since Sandru Yu in 2017. Fisher is now a three-time All-ACC honoree, with Third Team honors in 2019 and a Second Team nod in 2020. 

Next, the Irish landed two on the Third Team list as Olivia Wingate and Korbin Albert earned their first ACC awards. In addition, Albert landed a coveted spot on the ACC All-Freshman Team. 

Fisher saved her best season for last, exploding with 12 goals, doubling her previous season best. Fisher’s 12 goals rank second in the ACC and rank 19th in the nation, and of her 12, four were game-winners. 

Fisher is also tied for the team lead in assists with five, bring her points total to 29, which ranks third in the ACC and 24th in the country.

Then there’s Fisher’s fellow forward and partner in crime, Olivia Wingate. The senior out of Massachusetts owns five goals and five assists on the season, also career best marks. Wingate’s year includes a game-winner against Purdue, a brace at Miami and a great finish of a goal at No. 7 UNC. 

Next, there’s super freshman Korbin Albert. The Illinois native has made an immediate impact, boasting the second most goals on the squad with nine, along with three assists.

Albert has even shown off in tough environments, scoring four of her nine goals on the road: Wisconsin, Mizzou, NC State and Virginia. Albert also placed her name in the Notre Dame record book after scoring a goal against Louisville in the first 37 seconds, marking the third fastest in program history.

Lastly, four of Albert’s goals have come over the last eight games.
