NOTRE DAME, In. – The Notre Dame fencing team is proud to announce six signees to the program. The Fighting Irish welcome Chase Emmer, Maruan Osman-Touson, Eszter Muhari, Michaela Joyce, Sedna Gandhi, and Konrad Czyzewski. All six athletes are set to join the program in the fall of 2022.
ABOUT CHASE EMMER
Men’s Foil
Hometown: Morristown, New Jersey
Club: V Fencing Club
Hailing from Morristown, New Jersey, Chase Emmer is number one in the U.S. Junior rankings and 14th in U.S. Senior rankings.
ABOUT MARUAN OSMAN-TOUSON
Men’s Epee
Hometown: Budapest, Hungary
Club: Budapesti VSC, Budapest
Hailing from Budapest, Hungary, Maruan Osman-Touson is a three time Hungarian National Champion. He also took first in the 2020-2021 Junior Hungarian Cup where he has medaled six times in his fencing career. He is a 2019 European Championships silver medalist, and a two time Cadet European Cup bronze medalist. Osman-Touson comes from a fencing family as his cousin Marcello Olivares is currently on the Notre Dame fencing roster. His aunt, Maria Panyi, fenced for the Irish, and his uncle, Kornel Udvarheyli, is the current U.S. Fencing Epee Coach.
ABOUT ESZTER MUHARI
Women’s Epee
Hometown: Budapest, Hungary
Club: Budapesti Honvéd SE, Budapest
Eszter Muhari started fencing in 2011 and is currently ranked 31st in the junior FIE World Rankings. She is the 2019 individual World Championships U17 title holder, as well as taking the same title in the 2019 European Championships. Muhari also holds the 2018 and 2019 titles in the Senior Hungarian Championship.
ABOUT MICHAELA JOYCE
Women’s Epee
Hometown: Sterling, Virginia
High School: The Madeira School
Club: Cardinal Fencing Academy
Joyce is currently ranked fourth in the world junior rankings and second in the U.S. junior rankings, as well as being ranked 11th in the U.S. Senior rankings. Joyce is a member of the U.S. Junior and Cadet teams. As part of Team USA, Joyce won the Grenoble Cadet European Cup team event.
ABOUT SEDNA GANDHI
Women’s Epee
Hometown: Mamaroneck, New York
High School: Scarsdale High School
Club: Fencing Academy of Westchester
Gandhi is ranked sixth and 14th in the U.S Junior and U.S. Senior rankings, respectively. She took gold at the 2021 National Championships, and bronze at the 2021 June North American Cup in both cadet and Division I. Gandhi participated in the Division 1A 2019 July National Championships and took home gold.
ABOUT KONRAD CZYZEWSKI
Men’s Sabre
Hometown: West Caldwell, New Jersey
High School: Newark Academy
Club: Advanced Fencing and Fitness Academy
Czyzewski is a 2020 New Jersey state champion. He competed at the summer nationals where he was named 2021 Senior National Team Champion. Czyzewski took home bronze in the 2021 Cadet Sabre Junior Olympics.
