Ann Arbor, Mich. – On the first day of the Michigan Invitational, the Fighting Irish collected seven total victories in singles and doubles.
The Fighting Irish started off the morning with winning all three doubles matches against Duke. Castedo/Freeman were the first team finished when they cruised to a 6-2 victory over Drummy/Berankov. Yellayi/Coleman topped Beck/Jackson 6-3, and Beckman/Andreach finished the undefeated doubles day by defeating Coleman/Omirou 6-4 as well.
Doubles was followed by singles against Michigan. Julia Andreach, Carrie Beckman, Nibi Ghosh, and Meg Coleman all collected singles wins. Andreach took the first set over Brown and was down 5-2 in the second set, but fought back to win the second set 7-5 which sealed her victory 6-4, 7-5. Beckman battled for a three set victory against Gala Mesochoritou. She won the first set 6-2, dropped the second set 6-4, then hit sealed the deal with a third set victory 6-4. Ghosh and Coleman both had dominant performances winning in straight sets.
The Irish are back in action tomorrow morning with singles against Duke at 10:00am and doubles against Ohio State at 1:00pm.
