BLACKSBURG, Va. – The nationally ranked Notre Dame Track and Field team traveled to compete at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships from February 24-26. The men’s team finished fifth and the women’s team finished eighth.
The first day of competition saw both the men’s and women’s DMR teams finish second and fourth, respectively. The women ran for a time of 11:02.10 and the men crossed the finish line at 9:37.10.
The women’s pentathlon had a dominating performance from Jadin O’Brien who took home first place with 4324 points. Teammate Alaina Brady finished seventh with 3915 points, and Madison Schmidt finished with 3622 points in 10th place. O’Brien finished in first place in three of the pentathlon events (shot put, 800m, and high jump).
Kaitlin Ryan went for fifth place in the 800m with a time of 2:06.28. Olivia Markzich also finished in fifth place in the 3000m race with a time of 9:10.76. Meghan Scott took tenth in the 3000m as well when she crossed the finish line 9:24.76.
Maddy Denner raced in the 5000m with a time of 16:17.83 finishing in fifth place. Jacqueline Gaughan was right behind her in sixth place with a time of 16:27.94. In the same race, Katie Rose Blachowicz and Erin Strzelecki crossed the finish line at 16:30.95 and 16:39.03, respectively.
In the women’s high jump, Madison Schmidt hit a mark of 1.75m for sixth place. Rachel Tanczos took fourth place in the weight throw with a mark of 21.62m and eighth place with a toss of 15.31m in the shot put.
Michael Shoaf, took eighth place in the weight throw with a mark of 20.43m. John Stefan took 10th place in the weight throw with a toss of 19.34m. Shoaf took fifth place in the shot put with a mark of 18.88m. Stefan was also in the shot put and threw for a mark of 17.78m for 10th place.
In the men’s 5k Matthew Carmody and Josh Methner went 1-2 with times of 13:47.85 and 13:48.07, respectively. Carmody seta new ACC meet record with his time in the 5k. In the 800m Sam Voelz took second place with a time of 1:48.68. Tim Zepf crossed the finish line 1:48.90 for fourth place and Bashir Mosavel-lo finished with a time of 1:50.01.
The men’s 3000m race saw Dylan Jacobs take first place, the ACC meet record, and a facility record with a time of 7:49.79. Andrew Alexander was in the mix too when he crossed the finish line 8:02.03.
The Irish return to competition when they travel to the Indoor NCAA Championships in Birmingham, Alabama on March 11 and March 12.
