The University of Notre Dame men’s golf team ended the second day of the NCAA Regional in Palm Beach Gardens, Florida, held at the PGA National Champion Course in sixth place, two shots behind the College of Charleston, and in contention to advance to the NCAA Championship.
The team effort on Tuesday morning was highlighted by graduate student Davis Chatfield, dealing a two-under 69 that included a run of five birdies in eight holes, to move into a tie for fourth place on the player leaderboard. The 69 marks the first time that the Attleboro, Massachusetts, native has posted a score under 70 in NCAA competition.
Senior Taichi Kho followed up his first-round 68 with a solid 74 (+2) in the second round and is tied for sixth overall. Sophomore Angelo Marcon fought through an adventurous round with four birdies three bogies and two double bogies to card a solid 77. Junior Palmer Jackson was the final scoring player for the Irish on Tuesday, posting birdies on his final two holes for a four-over 76.

The Irish enter the third round looking to become the first Notre Dame men’s golf team to advance to the NCAA Championship since the association instituted regional play. The top five teams from each region automatically qualify for the NCAA Championship.
Ahead of the Irish on the team leaderboard is No. 3 Vanderbilt, No. 22 Florida State, No. 10 Florida, No. 40 South Florida and the College of Charleston (Golfstat.com rankings).
