SOUTH BEND, Ind. – With the conclusion of the regular season in the past, two members of the Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team have been named to the top-25 Tewaaraton nominees, as announced by the committee Thursday. Madison Ahern and Kasey Choma, who are tied for a team-high 52 goals each, are the Irish representatives for the postseason award, given annually to the top collegiate lacrosse player.
The two nominees matches a program-best having placed two on the ballot in 2019, 2016, 2015, 2009, and 2008.
Ahern’s 71 points on the season ranks second on the team while her 17 goals on the free position leads the Blue and Gold squad along with 94 shots on goal. Her 17 free position goals ranks among the top in the nation (ninth) while her percentage from the 8-meter mark leads all collegiate attackers (.810).
Fellow senior and team-leading goal scorer, Choma was named to the ballot for her midfield performance this season. Her 64 points off 52 goals and 12 assists ranks third on the team while her 52 goals is tied with Ahern for 15th-best in the country.
The Tewaaraton Award nominees, along with the rest of the Irish, begin their championship quest next Wednesday with a 1:30 p.m. draw against Virginia in the ACC Tournament Quarterfinals.
