SOUTH BEND, Ind. – With the conclusion of the ACC season, two individuals from the University of Notre Dame rowing team have earned All-ACC honors. Sophomore Natalie Hoefer was named first team all-conference while teammate and fellow sophomore Maggie Newell was tabbed to the second team, the ACC announced Saturday.
Combining for 62 points over the two-day championship meet, the Irish rowing team finished fourth in the ACC.
A member of the first varsity eight boat at the Dale England Cup to close out the regular season, Hoefer helped her team to a second place finish. The sophomore helped her boat to a first place finish against Northeastern recently while also guiding them to a second place finish at the Cardinal Invitational.
Newell was also in the first varsity eight boat with Hoefer for their second place finish at the end of the regular season. As a member of the V8 team against Northeastern, Newell led her boat to defeat the Huskies with a time of 6:28.2. A part of the second varsity eight at the Cardinal Invitational, Newell and her team posted a second place finish of 6:48.646.
Most recently, the duo led the first varsity eight squad to a third place finish in heat two of the preliminary round at the ACC Championships before finishing fifth in finals with a time of 6:35.787.
As a team, the Irish qualified all five boats to the Grand Finals of the ACC Championships and finished fourth overall.
