GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Fighting Irish fencing team turned in a big postseason performance on Saturday at the NCAA Midwest Regional hosted by Denison, placing 12 fencers on the podium, including claiming all six gold medal spots on the day.

The women swept gold in all three weapons, as Kaylin Hsieh won epee, Ariadna Tucker finished first in foil and Siobhan Sullivan finished first in sabre.

Notre Dame’s Eszter Muhari took silver in the epee while teammate Felicity Sebastian finished fourth. Josephina Conway earned second in foil and Rebeca Candescu placed fourth. In sabre, Notre Dame’s Magda Skarbonkiewicz made the podium with a third place finish and Jadeyn Williams came in fifth overall.

On the men’s side Maruan Osman Touson (epee), Radu Nitu (sabre) and Liam Bas (foil) brought home gold for Notre Dame.

Teammate Jonathan Hamilton-Meikle took silver in epee while James Sennewald came in seventh. The Irish also placed two on the podium in men’s foil, as Chase Emmer finished second while Ziyuan Chen placed fourth and Dominic Joseph took sixth. In saber Ahmed Hesham finished just behind Nitu for silver while Alexandre Lacaze was fifth.

The Fighting Irish will compete for the NCAA National Championship in University Park, Pennsylvania, on the campus of Penn State beginning on Thursday, March 20. The four-day event will conclude on Sunday, March 23.
