Bloomington, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the first day of the Indiana Relays at the Harry Gladstein Fieldhouse in Bloomington, Ind. Together the teams concluded the day with six first-place finishers.
On the women’s side, Molly Hirt (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington North) secured a first-place finish in the 3,000 while re-visiting her hometown. The junior finished in 9:57.62.
Madeline Casanova (Simi Valley, Calif./Alemany) claimed first place in the shot put with a throw of 13.72m.
On the men’s side, Spencer Carter (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) finished first in 8:30.87.
The men’s 600-Meter Run Invitational was an impressive race with Notre Dame claiming the top-three spots. Kevin Labus (Indianapolis, Ind./Brebeuf Jesuit) claimed first in 1:19.61, followed closely behind was Jack Howard (Libertyville, Ill./Libertyville) in second place in 1:19.91. Mitch Lorenz (Brainerd, Minn./Brainerd) rounded out the trio in third place (1:20.06).
Joe Miller (Bowling Green, Ohio/St. John’s Jesuit) finished in first place (8:22.61) in the 3,000 and Andrew Hills (Toledo, Ohio/St. John’s Jesuit) rounded out the Irish first-place finishes with a throw of 18.12m in the shot put.
The Indiana Relays continue tomorrow, beginning at 10:20 a.m. (ET) with the women’s 200-meter dash. Complete results will be available at und.com at the conclusion of the meet.
Notre Dame Women’s Results
60-Meter Hurdles Prelims – Kali Watkins finished in 9.13 (10th place) and advanced to the semifinals.
Mile Run – Alexa Aragon was the second-place finisher in 4:56.04, followed by Meg Ryan in fifth place (4:57.81). Rachel Velarde and Kelly Curran finished in seventh place (4:58.17) and 10th place (5:01.50), respectively.
Mile Run Invitational – Rebecca Tracy finished sixth in 4:47.70.
600-Meter Run – Elizabeth Andruszkiewicz finished 13th in 1:45.12.
600-Meter Run Invitational – Natalie Johnson finished in third place (1:34.17) and Allison Schroeder finished sixth (1:36.87) and Kelly Langhans finished seventh (1:37.34).
200-Meter Dash – Michelle Brown was the second-place finisher in 25.26 and Aijah Urssery finished in fifth place in 25.47.
3,000-Meter Run – Molly Hirt was the first-place finisher in 9:57.62, followed by Marissa Treece in fifth place (10:02.51).
Distance Medley Relay – Notre Dame (Higgins, Winkel, Ryck, Schulz) finished in second place in 11:51.95.
Triple Jump – Jasmine Williams jumped 11.55m to finish 10th.
Pole Vault – Chrissy Finkel finished second (3.45m) and Jessica Sullivan finished in ninth place (3.15m).
Weight Throw – Mason Bashaw finished in 11th place (16.07m) and Madeline Casanova finished in 15th place (14.59m).
Shot Put – Madeline Casanova was the first-place finisher (13.72m).
Notre Dame Men’s Results
60-Meter Hurdles – Jarrod Buchanon finished 10th in 8.63 to qualify for the semifinals.
1,000-Meter Run – Spencer Carter was the first-place finisher in 8:30.87, while Walter Schafer and Mat Abernethy finished in fifth place (8:41.11) and sixth place (8:41.28), in that order. Martin Grady finished 11th in 8:45.94.
600-Meter Run – Zac Suriano was the second-place finisher in 1:22.88 and Jordan Rincon finished in fourth place (1:24.49).
600-Meter Run Invitational – Kevin Labus secured first place in 1:19.61, trailed by Jack Howard in 1:19.91 and Mitch Lorenz in third place in 1:20.06.
Mile Run Invitational – J.P. Malette finished in eighth place in 4:05.14 and Jordan Carlson was the 11th-place finisher in 4:06.42.
200-Meter Dash – Miklos Szebeny finished in sixth place (22.27), followed by Edward Hitchler in seventh place (22.36). Patrick Feeney ran for ninth place in 22.46 and Jarrod Buchanon was the 16th-place finisher in 22.96.
3,000-Meter Run – Joe Miller finished in first place in 8:22.61. Kelly Lynch was the fourth-place finisher (8:28.19), while Ryan Gamboa placed sixth in 8:31.42 and Paul Springer finished ninth in 8:33.31.
Weight Throw – Greg Davis finished eighth (18.12m), followed by John Belcher in 10th (16.69m) and Andrew Hills in 12th place (16.66m).
Shot Put – Andrew Hills was the first-place finisher (16.88m), while John Belcher finished seventh (15.39m).
