PALO ALTO, Calif./TEMPE, Ariz. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams concluded the first day of weekend competition Friday. The middle distance and distance runners raced at the Cobb Track in Palo Alto, Calif., while the sprinters, throwers and jumpers competed at the Sun Angel Stadium in Tempe, Ariz. Kevin Schipper (Leo, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) claimed the pole vault crown after vaulting 5.20m.

Women’s Results
3,000-meter steeplechase: Lindsey Ferguson (Greenfield Center, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) 10:56.20 for a 13th-place finish.
1,500 meter run: Rebecca Tracy (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) finished 4:22.78 to finish in 10th place in the first section. Kelly Curran (Bloomington, Ill./Bloomington Central Catholic) ran to a first-place finish in 4:31.91 in the fourth section. McKinzie Schulz (Naperville, Ill./Benet Academy) finished in second place in 4:33.93, followed by Alexa Aragon (Billings, Mt./Billings Senior) in fourth place in 4:37.70 and Meg Ryan (Fairfield, Conn./Fairfield Warde) in 10th place (4:40.89) in the fifth section.
5,000-meter run: Rachel Velarde (Albuquerque, N.M./Eldorado) finished in 16th place in 16:58.77.
10,000-meter run: Erica Watson (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) placed 25th in 35:30.96.
Men’s Results:
3,000-meter steeplechase: Kelly Lynch (Spokane, Wash./Mead) finished 12th in 9:17.92 and Joseph Miller (Bowling Green, Ohio/St. John’s Jesuit) was the 13th-place finisher in 9:18.98.
1,500 meter run: Jeremy Rae (Fort Erie, Ontario/Lakeshore Catholic) was the second-place finisher in 3:44.09 in the first section, while J.P. Malette (Windsor, Ontario/Assumption College Catholic) placed seventh in 3:46.57. Jordan Carlson (Inver Grove Heights, Minn./Rosemount) finished in eighth place in 3:51.99 in the second section, followed by Johnathan Shawel (Placentia, Calif./Troy) in ninth place in 3:52.16. Spencer Carter (Boise, Idaho/Bishop Kelly) finished in fifth place in 3:54.57 in the fifth section.
10,000-meter run: Daniel Jackson (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) ran 30:01.83 to finish in 24th place

Women’s Results
Hammer Throw: Madeline Casanova (Simi Valley, Calif./Alemany) finished 18th and posted a 47.73m throw.
Pole Vault: Chrissy Finkel (Montville, N.J./Montville Township) finished in eighth place and vaulted 3.45m.
Men’s Results
Hammer Throw: Andrew Hills (Toledo, Ohio/St. John’s Jesuit) was the 11th-place finisher (56.48m) and Greg Davis (Peachtree, Ga./Starr’s Mills) followed with a 12th-place finish (54.76m). Denes Veres placed 16th with a mark of 51.21m.
Pole Vault: Kevin Schipper (Leo, Ind./Bishop Dwenger) notched a first-place finish and vaulted 5.20m, while Andrew Kolbeck (Richfield, Wis./Trinity Academy) finished in 11th place (4.80m).
