Notre Dame Lafayette Box Score
SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Rob Kurz had 18 points and eight rebounds and Chris Quinn and Colin Falls added 15 points each, leading Notre Dame to an 84-66 season-opening victory over Lafayette on Sunday.
Falls had three 3-pointers as the Irish ended the first half on a 17-3 run to open a 39-26 halftime lead, then used a 16-5 run in the second half to move ahead 66-43 on another 3-pointer by Falls. Falls was 5-of-10 from 3-point range.
The 18 points were a career-high for Kurz, a sophomore whose previous game-high was 11 points in Notre Dame’s season-ending loss to Holy Cross in the National Invitation Tournament. Kurz, who also played a career high 25 minutes, shot 8 of 10, including four put-back baskets.
Quinn made 5 of 10 and had nine assists as the Irish shot 50 percent. Lafayette (0-2) shot just 39.3 percent.
Bilal Abdullah had 14 points for the Leopards, Ted Detmer added 13 and Everest Schmidt had 10.
Despite the easy win, Notre Dame struggled at times. They had three blown layups, two by Falls and one by Kyle McAlarney. And after coach Mike Brey said he wanted to see the Irish run more, the Irish had just one fastbreak basket.
But they did manage to outrebound the Leopards 43-29, with Torin Francis leading the Irish with 14.
