NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Playing in its final tournament of the regular season, the Notre Dame men’s golf team is in 14th place at the Bruce Fossum/TaylorMade Invitational, hosted by Michigan State University, after shooting rounds of 319 and 321 for a 36-hole mark of 640 on Saturday. In their first tournament since winning the 2004 BIG EAST Championship, the Irish are 57 strokes behind tournament-leader Indiana, which has a two-round total of 583 (288-295). The 54-hole tournament is being played at the par 72, 7,013-yard Forest Akers West Golf Course in East Lansing, Mich.

Individually, freshman walk-on Adam Gifford (Plymouth, Ind./Plymouth HS) is leading Notre Dame after day one’s action, turning in rounds of 78 and 76 for a 36-hole score of 154, placing him in a tie for 44th and 13 strokes behind the 141 (70-71) shot by Tyler Riley of Toledo. Senior captain Gavin Ferlic (South Bend, Ind./Mishawaka Marian HS) fired a 157 (78-79) in the first two rounds. Freshman Shane Sigsbee (McKinney, Texas/McKinney HS) contributed 18-hole totals of 80 and 83 on Saturday. Junior Steve Colnitis (Baldwin, Md./St. Paul’s School) shot a 166 (83-83) and junior K.C. Wiseman (South Bend, Ind./Riley HS) finished 36 holes with a mark of 168 (84-84).

The final round of the Bruce Fossum/TaylorMade Invitational will take place Sunday, May 2, with the teams beginning play via a shotgun start at 9 a.m. EDT (8 a.m. EST in South Bend). Results will be posted on the official Notre Dame athletics web site (www.und.com) upon completion of the day’s activities.
