NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team will take part in the United States Tennis Association/Intercollegiate Tennis Association National Team Indoor Championships taking place Feb. 16-19 at the Midtown Tennis Club in Chicago, Ill. The 16-team field for the nation’s premier national indoor tournament was announced today by the ITA with the Irish earning a bid for the first time since 2002.
“I am very excited for our guys getting this terrific opportunity,” said Notre Dame head coach Bobby Bayliss. “They had an outstanding fall, but it is always tough to qualify for the team indoors as only the top 13 teams in the country get an automatic berth. I look forward to having a strong showing.”
Four teams on Notre Dame’s 2007 dual-match schedule are in the field: Duke, Illinois, Virginia and Ohio State. Also making the tournament is Baylor, defending champion Georgia, Miami, Mississippi, Penn, Pepperdine, Stanford, Texas and UCLA. Two more teams will be added in January – the central and mountain region representatives.
