NOTRE DAME, Ind.- The first day of Notre Dame’s annual Meyo Invitational saw strong times and marks across the board for the Fighting Irish men’s and women’s teams, with the collective unit earning four top-10 finishes total.

Starting off the running events strong, graduate student Kaila Barber easily won her heat of the 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, with a time of 8.11. This is a personal best and U.S. No. 4-ranked time for Barber, whose sister Jade Barber, a recent graduate of Notre Dame, also won her heat with a time of 8.21. Both qualified for the semi-finals, which will be held Saturday morning at approximately 10:45 a.m.

In the men’s 60-meter dash, Notre Dame’s strong alumni representation continued, with Brooks team runner and Notre Dame graduate Pat Feeney running a time of 6.87.

Another strong Notre Dame performance for the day came from junior Emily Carson, whose mark in the finals of long jump was enough to earn her sixth place overall (5.83 meters).

Sophomore Kevin Pulliam, senior Timothy Ball and sophomore Brent Kennedy all had solid races in the men’s 5000-meter run. Pulliam placed seventh with a time of 14:24.44, Ball placed eighth with a time of 14:28.49 and Kennedy placed 11th with a time of 14:32.92. On the women’s side, sophomore distance runner and walk-on Kaitlin Frei ran a personal-best time of 17:40.95, with teammate and freshman Toni Finnane registering a time of 17:47.59.

The Meyo Invitational will resume Saturday morning at 9:45 a.m. with the women’s unseeded 3000-meter run.
