CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Irish men’s tennis team posted eight singles wins and added two doubles triumphs over Minnesota on the final day of the Harvard Invitational. On the strength of a 3-0 record in singles play, including two wins from the No. 1 position, sophomore Casey Watt was named The Dale Junta Tournament Champion, awarded to the tournament’s top singles performer.
All told, the Irish went 19-7 in singles play over the weekend versus competition from Harvard, Alabama and Minnesota. The Irish also added a 6-5 record in doubles over the three days of the event.
On day three, Watt (Gibsonia, Pa.) downed Minnesota’s Bilankov in a three set match, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at No. 1 singles. Sam Keeton (Kansas City, Mo.) as well as freshman Michael Moore (Glenview, Ill.) also continued their winning ways as each player turned in a third consecutive win. The trio of Watt, Keeton and Moore combined to post a 9-0 mark in singles play at the three-day event.
Complete results of all three days are listed below. Notre Dame’s fall slate continues this week when select members of the Irish squad travel to Ann Arbor, Mich. to take part in the ITA Midwest Regionals on Thursday, Oct. 15.
