Notre Dame Rowing Signs Two Rowers To National Letters Of Intent

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame women’s rowing coach Martin Stone has announced the signing of Elli Greybar and Kendra Short to national letters of intent. They will enroll at the University in the fall of 2005.

Greybar, a native of Western Springs, Ill., currently attends St. Ignatius College Prep in Chicago, Ill. She has been a member of the Ignatius Chicago College crew team, affliated with St. Ignatius College Prep, since the spring of 2003 and was named captain in the fall of 2004.

Greybar has experienced great success during her prep career career, including impressive performances during the fall season. At the Head of the Elk (in Elkhart, Ind.) on October 31, she was a member of the junior open four boat that captured the gold medal in the 2.5-mile race. One week prior to that showing, she was a member of a four-person crew that finished eighth among 34 boats in the prestigious Head of the Charles Regatta in Boston Mass. Greybar also won gold medals in the junior women’s four at the Tail of the Fox (Green Bay, Wis.) and Head of the Rock (Rockford, Ill.) events.

In May of ’04, she was a member of the girls junior four boat that earned the gold medal at the Midwest Scholastic Rowing Championships in Detroit, Mich. Greybar’s women’s intermediate heavyweight eight crew also won the gold medal at the US Rowing Naitonal Championship Regatta in Indianapolis, Ind., in July after attending the US Junior Women’s National Team Development Camp in New London, Conn. In addition, she attended the University of Wisconsin Rowing Camp.

Short currently attends Cascade High School and is a native of Everett, Wash. She has competed for the Everett Rowing Association since the spring of 2002 and has rowed in the junior varsity eight and varsity eight boats for the past two yars During this past summer, she attended both the University of California and University of Washington crew camps.

Prior to her joining the Everett Rowing Association, she competed for nine years as a figure skater and was a memer of the Seattlites Synchronized Skating Team. Short competed at the 2000 and 2001 West Coast Sectionals as well as the 2001 US Nationals with her junior synchronized team. She also was a member of the volleyball and track teams.

“Both of these student-athletes are going to be great additions to the Notre Dame family and our rowing program.” Stone says. “They are going to complement the system that we have in place in helping us reach NCAA goals.”
