Notre Dame Softball Has A Pair Named To The BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll

PROVIDENCE, R.I.- Notre Dame’s softball team (2-3), after the first weekend of action, had a pair of players named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference office announced this morning, Feb. 20.

Sophomore pitcher Brittney Bargar (Corona, Calif./Corona) started her season by winning a pair of games over Auburn and Tennessee Tech in the Tiger Invitational. Bargar, for the week, threw in four of the five games, with three complete games and 24 strikeouts in 20.1 innings pitched.

Freshman third baseman Heather Johnson (Los Alamitos, Calif./Mater Dei) got her Irish career off to roaring start at the Tiger Invitational. Johnson had three multi-hit games during the tournament. Her most memorable performance was going three-for-four with three RBI, including a two-run game-winning walk-off home run against Tennessee Tech. Johnson was also selected to the Tiger Invitational All-Tournament team, after leading the six-team field in hits (8), batting average (.500) and on-base percentage (.500).

Linda Secka of DePaul was named the league’s Player of the Week, while teammate Tracie Adix was honored as the conference’s Pitcher of the Week.

Joining Bargar and Johnson on the Honor Roll were Ashley Bullion (USF), Christi Ecks (USF) and Courtney Moore (Louisville).

Notre Dame returns to the field this week and heads to Palm Springs, Calif. to participate in the Palm Springs Tournament. The Irish will begin tournament play against No. 12/14 Oklahoma on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. (PT) before taking on No. 11/10 California later that afternoon at 12:30 (PT).
