2007-08 Notre Dame Men’s Basketball
Notre Dame vs. Long Island University
November 12, 2007 • Joyce Center (Notre Dame, Ind.)

Head Coach Mike Brey
On pressure from Long Island…
“They’re scrappy and they’re athletic. They’re like a smaller Big East team. It was a good start for us. 21 games in a row in this building, that’s pretty impressive.”

On the interior game…
“I love what our big guys gave us. Those four guys are such energy guys. I though Luke Zeller was excellent tonight. That is certainly the strength of our team, those four guys.”

On the team…
“I thought we did a really good job defensively. I think we’re getting better and better staying in position and playing as a unit defensively, being able to switch with each other.”

On John Peoples progressing during the off-season…
“John is a really good guy for us. He comes in and gives us a lift. He’s an excellent passer. We’ve always been so impressed with his feel for the game.”

On the way the Irish were able to win…
“I thought we were very methodical. I thought we finished the halves well. That’s a good trait to have, to be able to end well. We finish with a lot of energy. We were really able to move the ball and get good shots off.”

NOTRE DAME PLAYER QUOTES

Sophomore Forward Luke Harangody
On adjusting to the defense…
“I’m going to have to get used to getting double-teamed this year so I need to get relaxed in the post, get my bearings, and look over my shoulder to see who’s coming when I get the ball.”

On tonight’s game…
“We came out pretty excited and then had to settle down. We got our offense going, moved the ball well, and got some good looks so everyone could hit their shots.”

Senior Forward Rob Kurz
On the upcoming tournament…
“We have the opportunity to play for a championship. It will be a great test for us as we have the opportunity to play some great teams. We are really excited.”

“I was happy with how we bounced back form the last game. We were able to pick up where we left off last season in terms of playing on our home floor. Offensively and defensively we improved.”

Junior Center Luke Zeller
On his role on the team…
“I am just going to go out there and make a difference, especially with the little things like defense and rebounding and then if I get an open shot I’ll knock it down.”

On his game in the post… “I am very comfortable down there. I am able to flow but when you have Luke Harangody down there you have to be able to give him space. We are working on working together and evolving as it goes on.”
