AUSTIN, Texas — The Irish completed their weekend at the UT Invitational hosted by the University of Texas today. Seniors Ryan Bandy and Matt Dooley and freshman Josh Hagar made it to the quarterfinals of their respective draws, but head coach Ryan Sachire says that on top of this achievement, it was the opportunity to gain more experience in the fall season that made this weekend successful.
“You obviously want to dominate every event that you play, and we were unfortunately unable to do that this weekend,” Sachire says. “However, we had some strong performances from individual players, including the four that made the quarterfinals of their respective draws (including sophomore Quentin Monaghan in Florida). It’s also important to note the weekend that Kenny Sabacinski had in winning three matches against very, very stiff competition.”
The final event of the fall season is the USTA/ITA National Indoor Championships, held in Flushing Meadows, N.Y., from Nov. 7 to Nov. 10.

ORLANDO, Fla. — The rest of the Notre Dame squad finished play yesterday in the USTA Collegiate Clay Court Invitational, hosted by Florida State University. Monaghan fell in the semifinals to the No. 1 seed, Roberto Quiroz of USC, 6-1, 6-2.
In the singles consolation matches, sophomore Eric Schnurrenberger defeated Manuel Belda (USA), 6-7 (4), 6-2, 10-4, and sophomore Kenneth Sabacinski beat Joao Gauer of FSU, 6-1, 6-4.
“The great thing is that each of our guys had very positive moments this weekend to gain confidence from,” Sachire adds. “We continue to be a work in progress and look forward getting back on the practice court after a day or two of rest.”
