Novak Wins ACC Title in 3000m Steeplechase on Day 2 of ACC Championships

LOUISVILLE, Ky.— Notre Dame ended the second day of the 2026 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships in grand fashion as Sophie Novak won the 3000m Steeplechase.
Novak won the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 9:34.46. Novak earns first-team All-ACC honors and claims the first individual ACC title for the Irish of the 2026 ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships. The Lake Orion native still holds the fastest 3000m steeplechase time in the country, with a time of 9:24.95, which she set back in mid-April.

Roșie Mucharsky set a personal best in the 3000m steeplechase with a time of 10:01.62. She finished sixth, earning second-team All-ACC honors. Mucharsky now has great momentum heading into the NCAA East Regional.

Lauren Huber earned second-team All-ACC honors with a fifth-place finish in the heptathlon. Huber put together her best performance yet in the Heptathlon, scoring 5419 points. Huber won the shot put with a mark of 12.73m (41’ 9¼”) and placed second in the 800m with a time of 2:10.73. Ellis Weekley finished 12th with 4893 points, while Kate McGuiness finished 14th with a personal best of 4862 points. Weekley’s best event was the 100m hurdles, where she finished second with a time of 13.91. McGuiness’s best performance came in the 800m as she finished fifth with a time of 2:15.85.

Obiora Okeke earned first-team All-ACC honors in the shot put, finishing third with a throw of 18.54m (60’ 10”). This is Okeke’s second All-ACC honors of the meet after his sixth-place finish in the hammer Thursday night.

Reed Cherry and Matthew Smith both qualified for the 800m Finals on Saturday. Cherry finished eighth with a time of 1:48.15. Smith finished ninth with a time of 1:48.16.
