Junior Palmer Jackson has been named one of 15 collegiate golfers named to the Final Fall Fred Haskins Award Watch List presented by Stifel. The news was announced on Monday, October 25 via the Golf Channel and Golfweek.
“It is impressive but much deserved after Palmer’s stellar fall to be selected to this prestigious list representing the best golfers in the country,” Irish head coach John Handrigan said.
“One thing I know and love about Palmer, he’s not content with just making the watch list.”
Jackson has four top-five finishes in five competitions this fall, including a first place effort at the Stephens Cup on October 19. Carding 18 rounds this fall, Jackson has finished under par 17 times and helped the Fighting Irish claim team victories at the Stephens Cup and the Gopher Invitational.
According to Golfstat.com, Jackson is the ninth-ranked collegiate golfer in the nation this fall with an adjusted scoring average of 69.29. The Irish have completed their fall schedule and will return to competition in February of 2022.
Celebrating its 52nd, year, the Fred Haskins Award has been given to the most outstanding collegiate golfer in the United States. The award is named in honor of Fred Haskins, former golf teaching professional at the Country Club of Columbus (Georgia). The votes are tabulated by the Haskins Commission from select writers, golf coaches and collegiate golfers. It is college golf’s equivalent to the Heisman Trophy.
