Notre Dame Head Coach Mike Brey

On the night without Luke Harangody
“I feel for our guys. We weren’t able to get into a rhythm tonight early, but we finally did. They (St. John’s) made a few more plays than we did. I’m disappointed for our guys, but we don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves.”

On guys stepping up…
Tyrone Nash really stepped up tonight in the low post and Tim Abromaitis made some good plays for us along with Carleton Scott. We were pretty happy with those guys tonight.”

On the postseason chances…
“I would rather be 7-6 than 6-7 (in the BIG EAST). We have a tough game on Wednesday at Louisville and then we don’t play for a week until we host Pittsburgh.”

On Luke Harangody’s injury keeping him out of Wednesday’s game…
“We have to prepare for him to be out and we’ll deal with it. We have to come back and practice tomorrow and play on Wednesday.”

Notre Dame Player Quotes

Tim Abromaitis | Junior | Forward

On the end of the game…
“We gave ourselves a chance to win at the end; we played really well, and some guys stepped up, but we just couldn’t get the stops we needed at the end.”

On the team’s response as the game progressed…
“They were really getting up and after us. I think we were trying to rush a little bit, and going too quick on offense, and sometimes we weren’t moving to get open enough.”

Tyrone Nash | Junior | Forward

On his reaction to their players…
“I just tried to do the right thing, go up strong. Yes, many times it gets me going, it should not even take that to get me going. There was a kid I knew from home, and it is just two guys competing.”

Carleton Scott | Junior | Forward

On the collective effort…
“We had a lot of difficulty, everybody realizing what they had to do. We worked on the defensive end, and the offensive was starting to come to us. We just have to get stops, and just keep working on our defense.

St. John’s Head Coach Norm Roberts

On the game overall…
“I thought it was a terrific BIG EAST basketball game. I give them a lot of credit. I know they did not have their big boy [Harangody] tonight, and Tyrone Nash played really good and Tim Abromaitis did a great job shooting the basketball. I thought my team stayed strong. This is one of the toughest places in America to win, and I thought the guys stayed strong and made plays in the end. We got contributions from everybody.”

On possession ending with Kennedy going to the basket…
“We wanted (Anthony) Mason to set the screen at an angle, and then pop so you had that opportunity there. Then, we really wanted D.J. (Kennedy) to turn the corner, and once he turned the corner to go towards Hardy, so he could take it to the basket or pass it to Hardy who just made a three for us.”

On shooting in the first half…
“I don’t know if it was necessarily a good shoot around, but I thought our guys just got their feet stopped when they shot. It was probably one of the best basketball games we had passing the ball. With twenty assists, we shared the ball and then shot the ball in rhythm. Hardy really shot the ball well in the first half, which really got us going since they got us down and Hardy made three three-pointers.”

On seeing something different in your team…
“I think our guys are persevering. This league is unbelievable; it is unreal because every night it is a war. I think our guys have been through some tough battles, and we are coming back and closing together as a team. I am really proud of them because they have been working hard to try to get a game like this.”

On Boothe staying in front of Jackson…
“It was huge for us. We talked to Malik about it because Tory had been playing so good and is such a good player. For Malik to hold him to 1-10 is tremendous. I thought we had good pressure on him, but also we had good help behind, because usually he can get up in the air and make passes or get to the basket.”

On team believing in themselves…
“I think that’s what happens when you win. When you lose you aren’t as confident, but when you win it makes everything better. With our guys, even when we went through the 5-game losing streak, those guys came every single day to practice and worked hard, there was no bickering or finger pointing, it was more that we need to try to get better. We need to look within ourselves and get better, and I think everyone has done that. It has really helped our team.”

St. Johns Player quotes

D.J. Kennedy and Anthony Mason Jr.

T.J. Kennedy on the big win…
“We’ve now had two straight big road wins for the first time this year.”

Kennedy on the last position …
“I just tred to make a play for my team and Coach called my number and I just tried to win the game.”

Kennedy on if they have found what it takes to win a conference game…
“Definitely we are playing well together as a team and everyone is contributing. We had a lot of assists tonight. “

Anthony Mason Jr. on finally getting in the win column…
“We had the same mentality and focus to come back and get two big wins. We fought back to get two big defensive stops. We didn’t have as many lapses. Everyone is playing together and the game is coming to us.”

Mason on his confidence in his shot…
“I’m good. I feel better and my legs feel better when I jump.”
