PHILADELPHIA, Pa. — The University of Notre Dame track and field team concluded the second day of the Penn Relays on a beautiful Friday in front of 38,598 fans at Franklin Field.
In the first outdoor action of his young career, freshman Troy Pride Jr. ran the 100m dash in 10.60, coming in 10th place overall. Pride was followed by senior Tommy Grant, who finished 17th (10.92).
On the women’s side, sophomore Kyla Lewis placed 17th (12.08) in the 110m.
Pride (200m) and Grant (200m) also ran in the men’s sprint medley relay along with Zachary Zajdel (400m) and senior Grant Koch (800m). The foursome finished in 17th with a time of 3:28.03.
In the men’s 400m hurdles championship, junior Drake Stimson recorded a time of 53.43 and placed 18th.
Freshman Summer Thorpe ran the college 100m hurdles in 13.69, good for seventh place in the race. Senior Taylor Craft also competed in the 100m hurdles, recording 20th place and a time of 14.28.
The Irish women’s squad finished sixth with a time of 56.96 in the shuttle hurdles championship.
Senior Anthony Shivers opened the field events for the Irish with a 54.07m throw and first-place finish in the discus. Shivers’ throw came roughly one meter shy of a personal record.
In the college men’s high jump, junior Hunter Holton recorded a 2.08m jump, and ultimately landed in fourth place. Sophomore Matthew Birzer is scheduled to compete in the men’s high jump championship on Saturday.
At Hillsdale College’s Gina Relays, junior Kaitlin Frei won the 10,000m with a time of 36:03. Frei set a personal record, cutting 33 seconds off of her previous 10,000m personal record, which was set in 2016.
On Thursday, freshmen Tyler Keslin (14:56.39) and Sean Kurdy (15:11.44) finished 18th and 33rd, respectively, in the 5,000m at the Gina Relays.
