SOUTH BEND, Ind. (AP) – Chris Quinn scored a career-high 25 points, making his first six 3-pointers, to lead Notre Dame to a 79-62 victory over Quinnipiac on Tuesday night.
Torin Francis had 19 points and 11 rebounds and Torrian Jones added 10 points and seven rebounds en route to the easiest victory of the season for the Irish (5-3), who were upset at home by Central Michigan on Dec. 6 and struggled to a four-point win over American University on Sunday.
For Quinnipiac (2-6), it was the second straight big loss to a Big East team. The Bobcats were beaten 88-55 by Connecticut on Dec. 13.
Quinn, who had scored his previous career-high of 19 against American on Sunday, also had career highs for 3-pointers (six), 3-point attempts (8), field goals (eight) and field-goal attempts (11).
Quinn made three 3-pointers in the span of 2:01 in the first half to ignite a 13-2 run as the Irish extended their lead to 38-23. The Irish stretched the lead to 44-27 at halftime when Quinn stole the ball and went in for the easy layup.
That was one of only two 2-pointers for Quinn. The other came midway through the second half when he rebounded a missed shot, scored and added a free throw to complete a three-point play and make it 67-46 with 7:51 left.
After allowing American to shoot a season-high 63 percent on Sunday, the Irish, who led by as many as 24 in the second half, held Quinnipiac to 34 percent shooting. Quinnipiac simply couldn’t find its shooting touch early, making just two of its first 19 shots.
Kason Mims, who had 18 points at halftime on 5-of-10 shooting for the Bobcats, was just 1-of-5 in the second half and finished with 23 points. Rob Monroe added 13 points for Quinnipiac.
Chris Thomas had 11 assists for the Irish, including eight in the first half, but finished with just seven points. It marked the first time he failed to score in double figures in 27 games, when he had just five points against Valparaiso last Jan. 4.
