NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The accolades continue to roll in for Notre Dame freshman women’s swimmer Emma Reaney, as Sports Illustrated has included her in the Jan. 16th edition of Faces In The Crowd.

The weekly feature has been a part of Sports Illustrated magazine since 1956 and highlights amateur athletes around the country for their athletic feats.

The magazine, which comes out on newsstands weekly and can be found online here or at SI.com keyword Faces In The Crowd, said this about Reaney:

Reaney, a freshman at Notre Dame, swam a 1:57.67 in the 200-yard individual medley to set a school and meet record at the Ohio State Invitational, where she also won the 400-yard IM (4:12.19). Reaney finished in the top four in seven events and through Sunday is 8-0 for the year in IM competition. In 2010, she qualified for the 2012 Olympic trials in the 100-meter breaststroke.

Through the first three months of her rookie campaign, the Lawrence, Kan., product has won 13 races either individually or as part of a relay team. In addition to the school record in the 200 IM, Reaney is only .17 away from the school mark in the 400 IM.

So far this season, she has earned two BIG EAST Women’s Swimming and Diving Athlete of the Week awards, becoming only the third swimmer since the award was created for the 2008-09 season to earn the accolade twice in one year.

She currently has the top time in the BIG EAST in the 100 breast (1:02.21) and 200 IM (1:57.67) and is second in the 200 breast (2:12.37) and 400 IM (4:12.19).

A standout in the classroom as well, Reaney turned in a 3.563 grade point average (GPA) in her first semester under the Golden Dome.

Reaney and the rest of the Irish open the second half of their season this Saturday when they head to Ann Arbor, Mich., to face off with the host Wolverines and the Northwestern Wildcats in a 1 p.m. tri-meet.
