AS A JUNIOR: Did not compete during the 2006-07 cross country and track and field seasons.
AS A SOPHOMORE: Ran in three cross country meets … stepped up into the fifth spot for the injured Kaleb Van Ort at the Notre Dame Invitational, helping the team finish second, running 24:37 over 8,000 meters … followed up that performance with a 78th-place finish at the Pre-National Meet (24:58) … also took 54th at the BIG EAST Championship in a Notre Dame team victory … did not compete during track season due to injury … poised to do big things if he can avoid the injury bug.
AS A FRESHMAN: Made a strong contribution to the Irish cross country team that was ranked as high as fifth in the nation … took ninth place overall at the National Catholic Championship, helping the Irish win the team title … ran his season[apos]s top 8,000-meter time of 24:55 in the Notre Dame Invitational gold race, finishing sixth … competed in the NCAA Pre-National Meet and took seventh in the open race with a time of 25:10 … was the lone freshman to compete for Notre Dame at the BIG EAST Championship … an Achilles injury ended his season after the league meet … ran well in the indoor track and field season, establishing a personal best time of 8:21 in the 3,000 meters at the Notre Dame Invitational … set another career-best mark the following weekend at the Meyo Invitational, running 14:33 over 5,000 meters … qualified for the BIG EAST indoor meet in the 5,000 meters, eventually finishing ninth in 14:42 … competed in three races during the outdoor season … qualified for the outdoor league meet in the 10,000 meters.
HIGH SCHOOL AND PERSONAL: Four-year letter winner in both cross country and track and field at Naperville North High School … earned Illinois all-state cross country honors in 2003 with an eighth-place finish at the state meet … also garnered all-state honors in track and field during the 2004 season, finishing fifth in the 3,200 meters … won the 3,200-meter title at the 2004 Illinois Prep Top Times indoor meet … cross country and indoor track 1,600-meter conference champion in 2003 … six-time all-conference honoree and the Naperville Sun 2003 ‘Cross Country Runner of the Year’ … personal best of 9:17 in the 3,200 meters … member of National Honor Society and an Illinois State Scholar at Naperville North … oldest of three children … identical twin brother Joe runs cross country and track and field at the U.S. Air Force Academy … born Oct. 9, 1985 in Downers Grove, Ill. … enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business as a double major in finance and economics … earned Dean[apos]s List honors his first semester on campus (fall 2004) with 3.80 GPA.
