AS A FIFTH-YEAR SENIOR: Earned a monogram … came back from injury to have a strong season … tri-captain of 2009-10 Irish team … BIG EAST Golfer of the Month (September 2009) … competed in all 11 team tournaments (29 rounds) for Notre Dame … had 24 of his 29 rounds count for the team (.828) … recorded a 74.72 stroke average, the third lowest mark on the team … copped medalist honors at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, his best finish of the season, shooting two-over par 212 (70-68-74) … the win marked the first of his Irish career … placed third at the weather shortened Bandon Dunes Championship with a 10-over par 152 (80-72) … his other top-10 showing came at the season-opening Gopher Invitational where he finished at even par (77-66-73=216) to tie for seventh … tied for 37th at the BIG EAST Championship by shooting a 14-over par 227 (77-79-71).
AS A SENIOR: Did not compete while recovering from summer 2008 back surgery … successfully petitioned for fifth year of athletic eligibility and will return to action in 2009-10.

SUMMER 2006: Earned first career berth in U.S. Amateur with third-place finish (66-71=137, -7) in qualifier at Old Chatham Golf Club in Durham, N.C.; was five strokes shy of medalist honors … finished eight shots off 36-hole cut at U.S. Amateur (Chaska, Minn.), firing 12-over par 155 (80-75).AS A FRESHMAN: Monogram winner … got late start to rookie season while recovering from back injury … made big splash once completely healthy, competing in last five tournaments of season (15 rounds), opening with three consecutive Top 25 finishes, and posting 73.40 stroke average (seventh in school history; best by an Irish freshman since 1954) … also had 14 of 15 rounds count to team score and shot four rounds under par, including one in the 60s … made collegiate debut at Administaff Augusta State Invitational and promptly carded three-over par 219 (74-71-74) to tie for 25th place … turned in exceptional effort in second career event, tying teammate Cole Isban for second place at Boilermaker Invitational with four-over par 220 (77-74-69); final-round 69 was a season-best, while finish remains highest of his career … played critical role in Notre Dame[apos]s third consecutive BIG EAST Championship, tying for 20th place at one-over par 217 (70-71-76) after matching program[apos]s 36-hole BIG EAST scoring record and sitting in fourth place entering final round; was hero in team[apos]s sudden death playoff win over Louisville, sticking his approach shot (from a downhill lie near a bunker) on the first extra hole within 10 feet, then rolling home the birdie putt to give the Irish the title … tied for 49th place at The Maxwell at 10-over par 220 (72-74-74) … was team[apos]s second-highest finisher at NCAA East Regional, sharing 59th place at nine-over par 225 (75-77-73).
SUMMER 2005: Qualified for match play in North and South Amateur at Pinehurst No. 2 in Pinehurst, N.C. … was leading finisher among four Notre Dame golfers in stroke play, tying for 11th place in 36-hole qualifier at two-under par 141 (71-70) … defeated Chris McCartin, 2 & 1 in opening round of match play … ousted Gordon Strother in second round, 2-up … lost in third round to Dane Burkhart, 3 & 2 (Burkhart was eliminated in the next round by another Irish golfer, Eddie Peckels).
PREP AND PERSONAL: Four-year letterwinner at Southeast Guilford High School in Greensboro, N.C. … became first golfer in school history to win North Carolina Class 3A state championship, doing so as a senior in 2005 despite missing most of campaign due to injury … also finished as 3A state runner-up in 2003 … team tied for 3A state title in 2005, but lost on scorecard playoff … was two-time all-state and four-time all-conference selection (2003 all-state choice was first by Southeast Guilford HS golfer in 21 years) … was runner-up for conference Player of the Year honors in 2004 … posted personal-low rounds of 67 in each of his final two prep seasons … was ranked as 32nd-best player in class of 2005, according to Dec. 2004 Golfweek/Titleist rankings … posted 72.69 scoring average on junior golf circuit, with four top-three finishes in 2004 calendar year … tied for second at 2004 Bobby Chapman Invitational and was third at both the `04 Golfweek Invitational and `04 Carolina Golf Association Junior Championships … full name is Joshua Sandman … third of four sons born to Michael and Dawn Sandman … born June 6, 1987 in Greensboro, N.C. … earned bachelor[apos]s degree in management-entrepreneurship from Mendoza College of Business in May 2009.
