Matthew Birzer Track and Field Roster

AS A SOPHOMORE:

• Placed on the Second Team All-ACC (High Jump).
• Marked a personal best performance in the high jump at the Blue & Gold Invite with a height of 2.15m (indoor).
• Led the Irish in 2017 at high jump with the mark of 2.15m.

AS A FRESHMAN: 

• Clinched second place in the high jump during the ACC Championships (2.16m).
• Placed second in the high jump in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge (2.05m).
• Came in second place in the ACC Championships (2.17m).
• Placed third on the Notre Dame all time best performance list for indoor high jump during the ACC Championships (2.16m).
• Tied for second on the all time best performance list for outdoor high jump in the same meet (2.17m).

PREP AND PERSONAL: 

• Graduated from Blue Valley West (Kan.) High School in May 2015.
• Four-time letterwinner in track & field, with one letter each in basketball and soccer.
• Won the 2015 Kansas 5A State Championship in the high jump (6′ 8″).
• Placed fourth in the state as a junior and fifth as a sophomore.
• Won the high jump event at the 2015 KU Relays and the 2015 Shawnee Mission North Relays as a senior.
• Went undefeated in the high jump as a senior.
• Attended the same high school as former Notre Dame soccer players Matt and Nick Besler.
• Son of Kevin and Michele Birzer.
• Father, Kevin, graduated from Notre Dame in 1981.
• Has an older brother, Christopher, and a younger brother, Daniel.
• Has three older sisters, Rebecca, Natalie and Annie.
• Enrolled in the First Year of Studies with plans to pursue a degree in Finance.
