Bio

TJ Mathieson was a Monogram Club director from 2014-18 and rejoined the board as secretary in 2021. Mathieson was a three-year Monogram winner as a defenseman on the Notre Dame hockey team. He was a member of the 2004 Fighting Irish squad that reached the NCAA tournament for the first time in program history.

Mathieson was a three-time recipient of the Knute Rockne Scholar-Athlete Award and graduated summa cum laude in 2004 with a degree in aerospace engineering. He received honorable mention for the CCHA All-Academic Team in 2004 and earned Dean’s List recognition in every semester at Notre Dame, along with various top-honors and awards in the college of engineering. Mathieson earned a master’s degree in Astronautical Engineering from the University of Southern California in 2008, and a PhD in Systems Engineering from the George Washington University in 2021, where he also serves as an adjunct professor in the Engineering Management and Systems Engineering graduate program.

Mathieson is currently the Chief Integration Architect for Northrop Grumman Space Systems where he is chartered by the Chief Technology Officer with enhancing, optimizing, and implementing integrated solutions across all of Northrop Grumman’s space and ground platforms. In his career at Northrop Grumman and Orbital ATK, Mathieson has been awarded multiple Innovation of the Year awards, a President’s Award, and a Meritorious Unit Citation from the Director of National Intelligence for various technical achievements on complex space systems.

While continuing his engineering work in the 2010’s, Mathieson joined the U.S. National Track Cycling Program and competed in multiple U.S. National Championships, Pan-American Championships, and on the UCI World Cup Circuit. He was selected to the 2012 U.S. Cycling Olympic Long Team for the London Olympics, and earned a national championship title in 2012 in the team sprint event. He currently serves as the head coach for the Reston Raiders 8U “AA” travel hockey program.

Mathieson and his wife, Michelle (’04), have three boys. The family resides in Oak Hill, Virginia.
